Polish Catholic News Agency reported last week that a 14 year-old Lublin girl known as “Agata” who was pregnant has undergone an abortion after pressure from her mother and from activists of the International Planned Parenthood Foundation.  The abortion took place on June 17, probably in the city of Gdansk.

Several days ago the Polish branch of the International Planned Parenthood Federation demanded Prime Minister Donald Tusk intervene and force the girl—who was allegedly raped--to undergo an abortion in keeping with the wishes of her mother.  The girl said she wanted to keep her baby and that her boyfriend was the baby’s father.  Various pro-life groups had offered to help her.

Bishop Stanislaw Stefanek of Lomza expressed sadness at the news and said it was “a reflection of the ideology of death. It is a tragedy.  A child has been killed and as a consequence the heart of a mother who was suffering and was unable to face the pressure has also been harmed.”

Archbishop Josef Miroslaw Zycinski of Lublin called the incident the “death of an innocent child.”
