Asunción, Paraguay, Feb 1, 2008 / 18:19 pm
Despite being suspended “A divinis” by the Holy See and his brothers in the episcopate, suspended Catholic bishop Fernando Lugo made his bid for the presidency of Paraguay official on Thursday.
During the general elections on April 20, Lugo’s party, the Patriotic Alliance for Change (PAC), will attempt to unseat the Colorado Party, which has held power for 61 years without interruption.
The PAC is made up of 11 political parties and left-wing social and trade movements.
Lugo made his bid official the same day as the former commander of the military, General Lino Cesar Oviedo.
