Officials deny Social Security health care system will provide abortion services in Mexico City

Although the Legislative Assembly of Mexico City legalized abortion up to the director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security, Juan Molinar Horcasitas, denied that the system’s clinics and hospitals in the Mexican capital would authorize the abortion services.

Molinar said the social security system would not practice abortions because the institution is regulated by federal norms, and the new law in Mexico City is strictly local.

“Abortion is not included in the services that the Mexican Institute of Social Security offers according to its own norms and laws,” he said.
