Rome’s renowned central train station, Termini, will be renamed in honor of Pope John Paul II, who died April 2 at the age of 84. The announcement was made by the city’s mayor, Walter Veltroni, after the Pope’s funeral last week.
The area on the edge of Rome, called Tor Vergata, will also be named after the third-longest reigning pontiff, the mayor announced. The late pontiff had welcomed two million young people there for World Youth Day 2000.
