This is a great introduction into the deeper study of Mary, the Mother of God.  This book by David Mills, a former Episcopalian, will help those interested in learning more about who Mary is.  He provides information about what Catholics and others believe about Mary based on Scripture and Tradition and also asks questions that most curious people of Mary would ask about her.

 

Mills asks questions on topics such as the Immaculate Conception and the Assumption before explaining them and providing a brief history.  He also discusses the usual objections that Protestants have of Mary, such as her title “Mother of God” and refutres the Protestant accusation that Catholics and the Orthodox worship Mary and almost treat her on the same level as God.

 

Besides his exploration of Mary in the Bible and doctrine, Mills discusses the feast days of Mary, her titles, and the various devotions, apparitions, and prayers involving her.  The reader will note that some of the same questions and answers will appear more than once.  This is a good teaching method, more you read or hear about something the more you will remember it.  He has endnotes and a bibliography for further reading and study which includes not only books and articles, but also websites. 

 

Again this is a wonderful introduction to Mary and what the Church teaches and believes about her.  It is highly recommended to those interested in knowing more about Mary, the Mother of God.
