Book written by: George McClendon. Indianapolis : Dog Ear Publishing. 134 pages. Paperback. October 2008. ISBN 978-159858-703-6. $14.00.
This is a combination biography and self-help book in which George McClendon uses his life story to assist people in improving their lives. He uses the struggle between himself and the dragon (false self) as the image to help people with their issues in life.
McClendon was a Benedictine monk of St. Gregory’s Abbey in Shawnee, Oklahoma from 1958 to 1978. He presents this part of his life story as a glimpse into monastic life and as one of those who eventually found that it was not their calling especially after the Second Vatican Council. He discovered he was called the married life and received dispensation from his vows and priesthood.
This book is recommended to those interested in self help, biography of a former monk, and the monastic life.
